dreading driving with rj inside th shit lada i had no choice hahahahaha - amber sat in the middle and rj and me sat at the doors, with ashi driving - and dave holding the walkie talke for the car convoys - we set off!
we were driving under the shadow of vatnajökull glacier - the largest glacier by volume and the 2nd largest in europe! when i said that mýrdalsjökull glacier was a huge pack of ice plopped into mountains and valleys - vatnajökull glacier IS AN ICE PACK THE SIZE OF THE ISLAND OF CRETE and thats huge! weve been driving the south part of it since yesterday and were still continuing and heading into jökulsárlón icebergs we have to drive the entire south portion of it! the one thing that is spectacular about vatnajökull glacier is that - at sea level - the glacier carves its way out of the mountains and valleys! in continental europe - i had to climb 3000 meters in the alps to see a tiny glacier!
driving in the ring road n1 of iceland in vatnajökull area - this is already THE national highway - we only encountered cars/trucks/buses every 10-15-20 minutes! the highway is empty as it can be - you can even have a party in the middle of the road! the long stretch of iceland's main NATIONAL highway leads to nowhere! stretching in the horizon all we can see are tongues of glaciers coming out from the big one - vatnajökull itself!
we stopped in the middle of the road to take pictures - since its pointless to take pics inside the car - with water droplets and mud on the windows.
surprisingly, it was warm here! and its not windy like on the other side that we camped and drove through - that was really strange - maybe the glacier and it'S mountain range in this side creates a barrier for the strong winds. and to my surprise - i was expecting a barrage of teasing from rj but he didnt! :P because he wanted to east some of my crackers :P lol hahahahaha he had to beg before i finally gave in lol hahahaha no, i was generous with everthing i had - afterall who can we turn to in times of trouble? us and only us.
after we satisfied ourselves from taking pics we drove again towards jökulsárlón icebergs!
