From Geilo to Odda
July 7, 2008
You won't believe it, it was still raining when we woke up in the morning. It rained from saturday evening when we arrived in Fredrikstad until monday morning already. I feared Klaus will hate Norway before he got a chance to explore it because of the bad weather ;)
Crossing the Hardangervidda is always a game of luck. 2 of 3 times the weather will be awful. Why should it be different this time? At least it was dry when we visited the Voringsfossen which is one of the most beautiful and highest water falls in Norway. To see the fall you can either drive a small road to Fossli Hotel (20 NOK fee for parking) where you can see the water fall from above or you stay on the road RV 7 and watch it from he bottom. We did both.
From the parking area at the RV 7 you can take a little train down to Mabödalen which might be nice. Unfortunately due to the bad weather it was out of duty :( So, I can't tell anything about it but I appreciate a comment from others which did the trip.
Close to the town od Eidfjord you find the Hardangervidda Nature Center which is very interesting and I can highly recommend a visit. The purpose of the centre is to gather and distributre knowledge about interaction in nature and human activities. The Hardangervidda Nature Centre at Eidfjord is a centre for the whole family, featuring lively exhibitions, hand-on activities, and visual effects.
Late in the evening we arrived Odda totally exhausted after an eventful day.
