Climbing into San Marino is a though job
I have been in San Marino before, but i didn't remember much of it and Chris never visited San Marino so we decided to visit this small Republic on our way from Ravenna to Urbino. You can see the mountain of San Marino from far away and when you come closer, San Marino is a little like Monaco. Everything is built very close to eachother because there isn't enough space. On our way up the mountain, to the historical center of San Marino city, the view gets prettier and prettier. We parked our car where the road ended and had to climb to the top by foot. The historical center is a pedestrian area with a lot of shops, restaurants and bars. Because of the huge number of tourists here, you rarely see locals. I can imagine they don't like to be outside with so many people in the narrow streets.
The main square of San Marino
Normally i don't like the very crowded places either but San Marino is a nice place to have seen. So we walked up the mountain to the main square of San Marino and after that to the two beautiful castles on the top. From here you have a beautiful view all the way to the Adriatic Sea. Because of the heat that day, it was about 40 degrees celcius, and because of the climbing, we got very thirsty so we found ourself a nice restaurant were we got a table with a view of the castles and a view of the landscape. We had a nice lunch, enjoyed to sit down and enjoyed the shadow and the view for a while. We walked another way back down the hill and we liked visiting this small country but we were also very happy to leave it again to go to some less known parts in Italy.
