Hidden Castles
March 12, 2007
Well, last night wasn't as nice as our first night on the train, but only because there were several stops, and I would wake up each time. The room was the same as our first night train, the bed was comfortable and the ride was smooth. The only other difference was that we got a basket of nice, warm rolls instead of just a couple of cold ones.
We got off in Frankfurt, and we had about 90 minutes to kill. So, we grabbed a coffee, bought some bread, cheese, meat and wine for lunch, and got a spoon for my collection. We actually left the station to see if there looked like anything interesting was nearby, but it didn't look like we were anywhere near a historic center. We got a picture of the train station for our boys, though.
We're now on our way to Koln, where we'll catch a high-speen train to Amsterdam. We changed our route, so we could go up the Reine River, where there are dozens of castles along the hillside. Jim was so excited for me to see one of his favorite and most scenic rides. Unfortunately, there is a thick fog on the river, and we've only been able to see a couple of castles. Jim is SO disappointed! I told him we'd just have to come back!
I still can't believe this will be our last night in Europe. The first week didn't seem to go very fast, but the second week flew. Fog has cleared; maybe we will get some pictures of castles now!
