Bangkok Crazy
A little over a year ago, I got talking to a lovely young girl called Lori. Soon, I found myself being invited to meet her and her friends whilst on holidays in Paris. Now I talk about this time in my life a lot as I feel it as had a big impact on my life since that day.
Not only did we become good friends in Paris, but her friends became my friends too. We have managed to stay in constant contact and have even managed to travel around a lot to see each other.
When Lori headed off to Asia with Matt in tow earlier this year whilst I was stuck busy working away at home, needless to say that I was jealous. I didn't need the constant barrage of photos on Facebook to admit that. Later, when Ruby told me that she was going to head off on her own to Asia, I seriously considered it.
Ashley then contacted me and told me that she was going too. Jeff who also knows both the girls began to think of it as did everyone's favourite Aussie theif, Hannah. With all of them on board, I got my best mate drunk one night with his credit card in his pocket and got our flights over booked!!Landing in Bangkok, there was only one thing on my mind....getting into town as soon as possible to meet the others and get a bucket o' whiskey.....
Oi! Don't judge me. I am no alcoholic. Alcoholics go to meetings. Besides, whiskey is good for you....
On Khoa San, Ruby showed us to our room where people kept walking into our room. I can officially say that not only did I meet Jules & Mel in my bedroom for the first time but also Bennie, Ying and Bennie's hair.
We relaxed by the pool for a while which was great so that me & Bryan could get caught up to speed with everyone else's trips so far and got to meet Mel, Jules & Bennie. Afterwards we hit the street and went to Sentral Bar for a few drinks.
We walked through the doors of Rikka Inn and I bumped into one of the boys from work. Ciaran had been working with me before he left Ireland and lets just say he rushed through his work and jumped on a plane, the first thought that ran through this poor lads brain was, "has Derek really come all the way from Dublin to bring me back to finish an audit??" You gotta love the randomness of bumping into people you know when away. Small world eh.
Later we went to some roof top-ish bar for music and drinks.
Bryan had his first bucket. Myself & Bryan met our alledged long lost father, from Perth I believe. I discovered I have a fondness for hats. Mr Hat Man discovered he had a fondness for me when I bought 12 hats off him for what I thought was a negotiated low price. Mr Hat Man's children are now able to enrol to Harvard. I look cool in my new hat(s).Gazebo. This is a bar where dreams come true. Well, thats what I've told myself since I don't remember a whole lot to be honest. I do remember a tower of beer. I hate beer. This did not deter me from drinking said beer tower. I wore a fez hat. Since I saw an American in Israel wearing a fez, I swore this was something that I would never do. Hung out with my buddy in Mickey Ds and feared for my life that I might be eaten by some crazy Anglo-Indiano girl.......
Good times, good times, why can't every day be like this one???
(Legal Disclaimer: although the health benefits of whiskey have been widely discussed in medical journals, I use the source of the ancient Irish druids who invited whiskey as a medicine, see I didn't lie, you can wilipedia that, granted I put the wiki up there put it still counts)
