a three-week-trip that would feature three south-east asian countries... Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam. our journey would consist mostly of over land (and water) routes.

XiaMen stopover

for our flight path's stop-over, we spent a day in XiaMen, China. the city proper is quiote charming and laid-back especially compared to my former new york city and my current residence of Shanghai! the island of Gulang Yu is home to a massive number of old French style colonial homes. many are in shambles & begging for a refurbish. the best part about this island is that there are NO cars allowed!

well... as far as Taiwan, I'd say thats very similar to being in china which U will already be doing. so I can say this:

Thailand: a place that everyone should visit at least once. i feel the Thai cuisine is the best in Asia and when looking at Asia as a whole... Thailand holds some uniqueness that separates it from the rest in so many ways. Bangkok is crazy and wonderful at the same time but if ya really wanna see "Thailand" get out of it and go north. The islands down south are beautiful but tourists abound! most of Thailand in fact has too many tourists in my opinion.

Vietnam: wonderful and beautiful, food also great! I'd say if U R lookin for less westerners to be around, compared to thailand, its a better choice! Saigon is interesting. Overall, I think Vietnam is a very complex society and would need a good amount of time spent there to understand it.

So in essence... if U R looking for more fun and excitement... Thailand for sure, if U R looking or some more peace and solitude... Vietnam
