Arrival
August 28, 2009
I arrived on time at 7pm. Upon landing, I could see mountains nearby in Anchorage's backyard. It was drizzling a little, very refreshing. Alaska Backpackers Inn is just 10min drive from the airport, and right in downtown. After checking in, I went to Glacier Brewhouse and treated myself Alaskan food and local beer: Norton Sound Red King Crab ($18 for 1/2 lb!!), and fresh halibut. $50 for one person, good food, but I would've much preferred eating seafood by the beach.
The hostel is the best I've been to, fairly new, very clean, with a personality. They have spacious private bathrooms for men and women. I shared a room with 2 girls the first night. One is Natalie from Ukraine, I got to practice whatever is left of my 7 years learning Russian. I was by myself the second night. The tourist season there seemed to be over.
