Geographical Center of North America

I was trying to get home, really I was.  But something about Rugby just pulled at me, making me want to stop.  It is the geographical center of North America.  I know, not super exciting, but not much is in North Dakota, so I wanted to stop.  I just happened to be passing through around 11 pm.  I was still 2 hours away from home and I really wanted to take a picture of the monument so I decided to sleep there in town.  I was too cheap for a hotel, so I pulled off in a parking lot and slept in the back seat of my jeep.  I pulled a blanket over the seat to make a little tent so no one could see me.  Again, lucky me - I spilled water all over the seat just before bed, so I had to sleep on a wet seat!

I made it through the night - just about the most uncomfortable night I've ever had.  At least there was a gas station a block away to "freshen up".  In the morning, I stopped at the monument and relished the fact that I was stading in the Geographical Center of North America.  Huh.  And then I moved on.  I had class at 9 am, and I think I made it home around 8:30 am.   The flags were flying at half staff in honor of President Reagan's death ten days earlier.

All in all, it was too short of a trip.  And I definitely want to get back to Crater Lake, Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Rainier.  More camping and hiking there for sure!
