I left Sun Pink Hotel in Jaipur to Chennai and layover in Mumbai by Jet airways. As the plane descending to land the view of modern high-rise apartment and slums become very peculiar sights of Mumbai. Shanty town zinc roof slums house make up nearly 50 % of Mumbai populations. I had 6 hours to kill in Mumbai and I planned to store my backpack at the airport and head to Colaba- the main tourist evenue in Mumbai. But the price of luggage storage was the same price as the taxi fares to Colaba, I dragged my backpack. A good thing I had only 1 backpack as the other one was on its way to Chennai as checked-in baggage. There was prepaid taxi booth that helped to solve common issue among travelers being ripped-off. However the taxi driver invented new tactic in every possible way to cornered thing around for extra cash.
Mumbai or Bombay previously known is India’s answer to Hollywood hence the name of Bollywood. My love for Bollywood movie, a common Rags to Riches storyline and plot starts back when I was a little kid. It was circa 1982-83 when the movie Disco Dancer conquering parts of Asia and as far as Russia that it became instant hit. The songs from the film are the piece of my childhood memory I have growing up in the 80’s.
Tripping down to memory lane every time I hear it, when I first learn to ride a bicycle hitting the tree with ‘ Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, Ajaa Ajaa ‘ or ‘ I am a Disco dancer, Zindagi mera ghana’ La la la la laa ‘ as the background songs. My late dad was huge fan of Hindi songs. And it cracks me up listening to the songs.
I had lovely lunch at one of tourist hotspot restaurant in Colaba before heading back to the airport for the connecting flight to Chennai.
