So we left Mexico behind us and went into Guatemala. We crossed the border on a market. It was a bit strange because you never really had the idea you were crossing a border. Just a big signe on a road gave us the information that we were entering Guatemala. Than after all the bureaucracy we finally did find our bus which brought us to Panajachel
, at lake Atitlan. On the shores of the lake there are several volcanos who also have the typical vulcano shape. It was amazing to see. We spend a couple of days at the town where we did some tours across the lake. After Panajachel we went to Antigua
, which is a beautifull and very colourfull town... The restaurants were very nice especially a restaurant called Frida's. At Antigua we booked a tour to climb a volcano called Pacaya.
We knew that there would be flowing lava but i didn't expect it to be so hot near the flowing lava. The soals of my shoes melted of and i had to descent the volcano on my socks.. But i wasn't the only one.. Than again, something to talk about.. After Antigua we took a plane from Guatemala City
to Flores which is a small island connected by a bridge near Tikal
. When we arrived it felt like a ghost town but we soon realised that since it was in the middle of the day all the people would be in Tikal.
The next day we visited the famous Maya Ruins of Tikal.. What a beautifull place!!!!! It is in the middle of a jungle with al kinds of wild animal walking around. But it was also the place where i have sweated the most i have ever did. It was incredibly hot and humid.....
But the site made al our "suffering" worth wile...
After Tikal on to the third country of the trip..
