Quito - Day 2 - A wasted morning trying for Galapagos tours, then old town in the arvo
I was a little unfortunate in the timing of my arrival in Quito since my first day of exploring fell on a Saturday. While travelling you tend to easily lose track of what day it is, but in this case it meant that a lot of the tour agencies in Quito were closed (or at least the ones I tried). I had been hoping to head in to one of the hundreds of operators offering last minute Galapagos island tours and try to pick up a cheap last minute deal, sadly this will now have to wait until Monday.
I at least realised the pointlessness of this search early enough to use the afternoon for some sightseeing so I headed along to the Basilica which gives some great views of Quito's old town. Quito definitely went up a notch when I arrived in old town, there's some great views to be seen but it's better than I expected. I wandered around the town with an American named Phil from the hostel, not really with any goal in mind, just getting a feel for the city as I like to do.
Naturally it was back to The Secret Garden's roof terrace for dinner, it's just too good to resist :)
