RTW 2006 - South America bit

Santiago Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

Well I've been slack on my blog in Europe but hopefully I can get back in the habit in S.A. Will trek around Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, of course slotting in the Inca trail in mid-August. We'll see how my dodgy basic spanish goes....

Arrive in Santiago, bus straight out to the coast

The very first thing I learned about Chile, after talking to a girl called Zoe that we met in London, is that on arrival Aussies, Americans and Canadians have to pay an entry tax that's of the order of $50 US!!!  Suddenly the choice to stop in Chile for a few days since it was on the way may appear a little unwise.  Apparently if you just get on a connecting flight you don't pay.

I'd have to say it sounded like a scam to me when Zoe first mentioned it, but the guidebook does back up her story so better make sure I have some US cash when I jump on the plane in London!

Hi Chris,
Since you visited Santiago, may I ask if you have by any chance visited San Alfonso del Mar, the largest swimming pool in the world? I've a website called WorldGreatestSites. Right now I am working on a page on San Alfonso del Mar, so I'm looking for tips and info from people who's been there. If you'd like to correspond with me as friends, you can write to me at this email address (I am using a graphic be reduce spam). Thank you and have a great day!
