Hunter Valley

We had a 3-day week-end as it was Labour Day on Monday (Australians are clever to always put public holidays just after the week-end, it is so much better!). I first thought about going to the Great Ocean Road, but finally there was no affordable flight left, and it seemed also quite hard to rent a van. No worries, there is a lot to do closer to Sydney... Even if the weather was said to be very bad (cold and rainy), we decided to go to the Hunter Valley and then around Port Stephens (going North here is a good idea to find better weather - everything is really up-side-down !).

45 minutes driving from Sydney and it is already the countryside : amazing ! To reach the Hunter Valley, we decided not to take the motorway but to go accross "mountains". Wow... We drove for more than 2 hours in the deep nature : no house, just the road and us... and animals ! We saw a doe and a kangaroo looking at us on the side of the road ! (and many kangaroos and some wombats... not alive :( )

Because of the weather and the winding road (and we stopped to eat and at the tourist information), It took us around 5 hours to do 250 km to reach Aberdeen, where we had booked a guest house. The guest-house was great and surprising, I highly recommend it
