Quad Adventure Tour and fried snake :)
There was no drama this time unlike my Phuket trip where I almost miss my flight. It went smoothly and there was no delay, plane landed at 8am.
I don’t have accommodation yet, so the first thing I did was to search for a place to stay. Few days before my trip, I did research for cheap hostels and guesthouses. I am choosing between Jasmine Lodge and Rosy Guesthouse since I’ve got good reviews from other travelers. So I hired a motor driver for $2 to bring me to Jasmine. But while on our way to the downtown Siem Reap, this stupid driver which I forgot the name, pretended that he doesn’t know the place! Yes, this is a SCAM! And I’ve read this couple of times.
He then brought me to a place named “Angkor River Star Hotel, Bar, and Restaurant” which is pretty close to Central and Night Market; just few blocks away from
I just took a shower and went down to the internet cafe to check for things to do in SR. I came across on one of the traveling sites and read great reviews about Quad Adventure Tour. I checked the address and went to the place. Right then and there, I booked for the afternoon tour which will bring us to suburb place to visit the orphanage. The experience of driving the Quad in a muddy and slippery road really adds to my excitement. I joined the group of an Irish couple, French couple, and Aussie families. We were like 10 Quads in convoy. I was the second so I was somewhat leading the pack.
Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take photos or video while driving so I don’t have photos to share for the muddy roads we traveled.
We went to suburb and rural area away from the busy and touristy places of the city and visited an orphanage. Frankly speaking, their condition is closely similar, if not even better, to orphanages in my home country. We also have a lot of homeless and abandoned kids. And I would say these kids in Cambodia are even fortunate since there are private sectors helping them to build the school and their community.
After staying there for a while, we headed back to our journey. We were supposed to visit another place but since it was raining heavily, we decided to just go home as some roads are merely not passable already. Along the way people were so friendly, kids were all waving their hands; eagerly see tourists on their place, and everyone’s greeting you with their big smile.
We then stopped for a while for refreshment, dunno where the place is.
Then one of the locals showed me some of their exotic foods and dared me to try the friend snake. I was a bit skeptical at first because it doesn’t look appetizing or tasty. But for the heck of it, I tried one. And hey, it wasn’t bad. It just tastes like a chicken hehe. Then I dared these Aussie guys to try it as well like a fear factor challenge. And they tried it too haha.
After the attempt of eating this sumptuous dish, we continued our journey and headed back home. This time, it was really raining hard and we were all covered with mud and we’re soaking wet. Due to the rain, we finished the supposed to be 2-hour trip in more than 3 hours. We had so much fun. The trip was amazing and I was so happy that I booked it. The tour guide personally dropped me off to my hotel using his big dirt bike! Awesome ride!
That night, I went to the night market just few blocks away from where I’m staying.
It wasn’t that big and the price was not cheap either. So I decided to just go to the
