Well, because of weather back in the US, my 10 hour layover turned into 6 hours... That's okay, I still ran into town to look around. You can get into the city on an airport train (the CAT) in 16 minutes, so not too much time wasted in transit. Got in a quick loop around town before heading back... and most importantly, lunch! Never did find those little cans of Vienna sausages anywhere...
There are a lot of statues in Vienna. Composers and artists, mayors and statesmen, kings and officials of past empires based there.
After my run through town I felt that it was a pleasant place, clean and efficient, almost a little sterile. Probably because I've spent the last few vacations in the Balkans. I always look forward to my first encounter with Croatia, usually in the farthest gate of the farthest terminal. I hear my first Croatian spoken, a sound that I miss, usually endless, animated conversations about the boarding time versus the departure time, prolonged by the inevitable delays in Croatia Airlines flight times : ) This time it took them only an extra hour to kick the tires or do whatever they do, and after 30 hours, was finally on my way to Zagreb!
