We never made it to the Petra by night show, on the way we found a bar with Guinness so guess what we did?? Next morning we slept in past the alarm clock and Anthony the aussie knocking on the door to wake us up. We had been to Petra once already so did not have to rush round to see all the big sites instead we took it easy and had a slow walk round the entire site seeing far more than we had the original time. Last year we had been too tired to climb more than one of the hills but this time we managed to climb two. The first was relatively easy in comparison to the second. At the top were the ruins of a crusader fort. The second climb of the day was to the High Place of Sacrifice which when we got to the top was rather disappointing. Ruth if your reading this the university trip that was here last year has ended and they discovered and partly rebuilt a Roman temple complex so you could be doing that in a couple of years. After the long day at the site we had another couple of lovely black beers to reward ourselves this time only us and Anthony ventured out.

The American was asleep and the aussie couple didn’t want to spend any money. Anyway after a few beers it was off to the chicken shop but it had closed for Ramadan so we had a walk round town and quite disappointingly the only open place was a pizza shop so two pizzas a garlic bread and some chips were ordered. Whilst doing this we noticed a local billiards club on a rooftop so armed with our whisky and pizzas we walked in. Like an old western film the club fell silent, the owner sat alone in the corner constantly smoking with his ledger in front of him, he stood to greet us apparently the only westerners ever to come in, and we got the feeling Claire was the only female to walk through the doors. All was well people started playing again we got our table we were rubbish the locals took it very seriously we were laughing at the situation we had found ourselves in. Claire got special treatment for being a western woman and the manager looked on approvingly when she belched following her pizza and coke. Anyway two hours later the night came to a close and we walked the four flights of stairs to bed. A random but good night was had by all.
