Today started horribly early for us as we needed to catch the 7am bus from Siwa to Alexandria which all seemed to be going well until it broke down in the middle of the desert about 50km outside of El Al Emain while this was going on the bus was attacked by millions of flies resulting in nasty bites around eventually we got going again and arrived in Alex an hour late. Next came the haggling for a taxi to take us from the bus station, got him down to a reasonable price but he still tried ripping us off. After all that we were still in time for the 4pm train to Cairo but that was canceled as the engine had broken down on the platform. We were befriended by an Egyptian student and we met two Americans and one French backpacker. We all parted ways on the Cairo underground, the Americans and the Egyptian went one way and the Frenchman and us the other. At this point we realized how big Cairo was and that it is nothing like in Indiana Jones (very misleading) may i also point out that we were not chased by Nazis or one eyed men with pet monkey on a motorbike (also disappointing) we had no idea where we were going so we all went to the same hotel which took an hour of walking in circles to find. Anyway here we are eating a shish kebab on a Cairo rooftop half exhausted and nearly dead, partially due to the travel but also the seven flights of stairs we must climb to get to our rooftop room, after the day we had the last thing we wanted to hear was that the lift was broken! . Just hope none of those insects from the bus carried malaria or this may be our last post.
