going to the beach

Ah, the beach

I don't think I've ever actually been to an East Coast beach.  So we drove the 20 minutes over to Virginia Beach so I could get my feet wet.  First stop was at one of the many places serving cheap breakfasts.  With full bellies, we decided to hit the beach.  My cousin and I laid out and went in the water, while the rest of the group went up and down the boardwalk.  It was really hot there.  I thought I'd be content just laying on the beach, but it was way too hot.

The thought of going in that brown water that smelled funny wasn't too appealing.  But my cousin urged me to go - how can you say you were at Virginia Beach if you didn't actually go in the water?  So I waded in a little ways.

The water was pretty warm, but the waves splashed me and got my suit wet.  So I decided I might as well go in a little further.  I went in up to my waist and splashed around a little.  It was like the wave pool at the water parks in Wisconsin Dells - only real!  And then a huge wave splashed over my head and I got salt water in my eyes and decided that was enough of that!  It was time to get out.  Only the current was pretty strong and I was surprised at how much effort it took to get out of the water.  (I was later told the red flags meaning strong rip tides were up - I never noticed them).  I was surprised, but I actually wished we had spent more time there!  I didn't think I'd like the beach, but I did.  I guess I'll have to go back!
