Kingsport Greenbelt Trail

On long weekends while working in Tennesse, I went rock climbing, hiking, skydiving, caving, hit the beach, took scenic drives (and more!) in the surrounding states.

Kingsport Greenbelt Trail

Greenbelt trail
Kingsport is situated on the Holston river, which has a wonderful trail for walking or biking called the Greenbelt trail.  There is a narrow suspension bridge that crosses the river to the Long Island of the Holston.  The bridge is fun - about 3 feet wide and swings when you walk on it.  The island has important ties to Native Americans in the area.  From the island, I saw some great wildlife - birds, turtles, fish, and bugs.  The river is also popular for fishing out small mouthed bass, although I don't recommend eating any fish out of there.  The river is utilized for industry including a chemical manufacturing plant and an ammunitions plant, both of which have had questionable waste dumping practices in the past. I haven't seen any water quality data, but I still wouldn't eat anything from there.

Isn't it sad that industries have no compassion for something so beautiful?
