Up at about seven am and ready to go shortly after. My wife felt better and we went down for a quick bite before heading out for the five hour bus tour into the tundra section of
This turned out to be a real bust. The tour guide told us that everyday she was able to point out wildlife and gave a nice narration about the history of the National Park while driving slowly back into the wilderness. But the only animals we saw were some sheep off about two miles that looked like small golf balls to most of us and there was one small female moose about a quarter mile away that you could only see if she moved, which she didn't do very much.
After returning we went to lunch. Our plan to stop and get a sandwich at Subway was dashed as we watched then nail up the last two sheets of plywood over windows. They had closed for the season last night after being open 24/7 all summer. There is not much here to offer here. Princess Lodge has a very upscale restaurant and an espresso coffee shop. There is a pizza place (where we ate last night) and an expensive local place. The only other place is a market, liquor, deli offering several quickly made specialty sandwiches and burgers.
A quiet afternoon spent in our room, and I took a short nap. Then out to dinner at the Lynx Pizza again. This time a combo, and they threw everything but the kitchen sink on it. In fact, nearly more than we could eat. We strolled through a couple of gift shops and art galleries on the way back to our room and watched a little TV and packed up for our move to Fairbanks tomorrow.
