The sleepy crowd on board our flight from Fairbanks.

Our alarm went off really nice and early so we had time to eat the nice sweet roll we had purchased and have a good cup of coffee before checking out and heading to the airport.  We always take along a unit that heats water and some instant coffee.  Our luggage was all ready to go so we showered and dressed and called down to let them know we were ready to check out and get our shuttle to the airport.  They sent a young lady up to gather our bags.  At the desk downstairs the girl said we were the last of the Princess tour customers for the year.  This huge hotel with three floors and 325 rooms was all but totally vacant.  It felt eerie.  Of course at 5 am its quiet anyway.  We turned in our key cards and were off to the airport.  As happened on our last tour, when the girl brought our bags out of the van one wheel had been broken off.  We thanked her sarcastically for doing such a good job and we dragged it with us into the terminal and checked in for our flight out of Fairbanks.

The window was dirty so all of these shots will be poor. :(

A quiet and sleepy wait for our flight at the terminal while we waited for the hour and a half for our flight to load.  And finally we boarded, got as comfortable as we could and shortly thereafter we were rolling out to the runway.

This was the biggest plane of all the planes we flew on this vacation and I think the most loaded.  We are on Alaska Air/Horizon Airlines for our trip home and this first leg is in a Boeing 737-900 which seat 16 first class and 156 in coach.  I don’t think there were half a dozen empty seats.  I had an aisle seat and my wife was next to me.  A very slight Asian lady was at the window seat.  She appeared ill and slept the entire flight.

Bye, bye Fairbanks.

I did get a couple of pictures of the mountains and a glacier and even a shot of Mt Rainier as we neared Seattle.
