Eight days in August: Normandy and Bretagne are a relative nearby destination from where I live. Have been to Normandy before. Both in Normandy and in Bretagne is much more to see than we had time for :-)

Rouen, Caen, Cancale (Bretagne)

We decided for another city walk in Rouen before leaving this beautiful town.

On our way to Cancale (Bretagne) we made a lunch stop in Caen (the capital of the Basse-Normandie region). We ate the first 'galettes' (pancakes which you can order with all kind of hearty or sweet fillings or toppings) and walked around the city centre.

Main sights are the castle (Chateau de Caen) and two abbeys: Men’s Abbey and Women’s Abbey. The last one we visited.

Then we continued our way to Cancale where we stayed for 3 nights.

My dinner :-))
My dinner :-))
Affordable, nice area.
We booked this two star hotel in advance (internet reservation). Price for a double room was 60 euros. Breakfast at 7 euros a person. Tourist taxes were added to the bill (85 eurocents a person a night).

Our room turned out to be in a separate building, on the garden site. Room is really very small, but nice decorated ànd very clean!

Breakfast is simple. French (coffee, tea, juice, bread, butter and jam) with a little 'European' added: cheese, cereals and yogurt.

The hotel has a nice garden with subtropical plants and trees. Enough parking area.
There is a small 'covered' swimmingpool. Did not try it. More a place for kids to play a little. Towels available.

The harbour (with a good choice of restaurants) is a 20 minutes down hill walk (up-hill when you return!).

For me the overall rating is in between average and recommended!
