Ok, getting out of Bulgaria is not as easy as it is in most countries. Here is the deal. If you want to leave Bulgaria by train, you must purchase an international ticket. No problem right, just go to the train station and buy a ticket, NOPE. You must purchase an international ticket at a specific office, which is not located inside the train station. We would have never know about this, but the owner of the hostel took me to the office. Also, the office has bank hours, so be careful. If you dont buy the international ticket like you are supposed, as we did not, you have to buy a ticket to the border town of Bulgaria, and wait for the next train leaving to the city in the next country you want to travel to.
So we took the train to Russe, the border town between Bulgaria and Romania, and we prepared to buy a ticket to Bucharest.
We were dropped off near the hostel, because the driver had to get to the airport. We asked a couple for directions, and they showed us to the hostel, even though it was a 15 minute walk! Incredibly nice people in Romania. Well, we got to the hostel we picked online, and sure enough it was all booked up. The front desk called a nearby hostel for availability and also called a taxi for us. We ended up staying at Central Hostel for 47 Lei per night. No air condition, but the hostel was very clean and the staff were super friendly and helpful.
