Before the trip to Buzios, we had one last hike. This would last all day. The Fellowship of Brasil included Joe, Brett, Byron, Antonio our guide, Anthony the propietor, and of course myself. We hiked for about 2 hours and came across a huge waterfall. After a brief swim in the falls and lunch we continued our journey to the top of the falls. Here we met Babado, an old grizzled moonshiner, who lives at the top of the falls. He fed us the most delicious banana i have ever tasted. He joined the fellowship up the mountain. During the hike Antonio pointed out a sloth sleeping in the trees. We came across another waterfall, not as tall but equally impressive.
Anthony had one last surprise for us. Every guest gets to plant a tree to encapsulate the visit to his nature preserve. He gave each of us a young tree and had us pick out a spot and plant. Pretty cool.
After dinner we hired a private car to take us to Buzios. The taxi cost 250 Reals, which was more than a bus, but of course more convenient. The drive took an hour and a half. We booked a room in the center of town for only 40 Reals per person at Beira Mar Pousada. It was thursday night, so it was not as crowded as the weekends. So, after a couple of caipinrhas at Anexos, we called it a night.
