My first trip to South America. I have 5 weeks with no set plans. So i will see where the road takes me. After South America, I will be heading to Europe for 2 months to some familiar and some very unfamiliar places. I apologize in advance if this is difficult to read, grammar was never my best subject. Cheers.

Christ Statue

Brett and I went to the Christ Statue.  We used a taxi from the hostel to take us.  The cost was 50 real.  There are several ways to do the tour, including a train ride up the mountain.  However, we were told this was the most cost efficeint way to do the tour.  The driver took us to a lookout point near the statue.  He allowed us 15 minutes to take pictures.  Then he drove us up to the actual statue.  The day we went, it was very crowded with tourists.  It was pretty difficult to get a good photo without some dude you dont know getting in the shot.

For dinner, a large group of us from the hostel went to Espelunca Chic, which is across the street from Emporio.  We arrived after 11pm and it was very difficult to get a table.

We waited for about 45 minutes before a table was ready.  I think this is a normal occurence on the weekends, so go early if you want to get a table for many people.  Had a few small items from the menu.  Decent food, nothing spectacular.  They did have a dark beer, very tasty.

After Espelunca, we talked the girls with us into checking out Help Disco.  Help is notorious for having prostitutes mixed in with other clientel.  Cover was around 40 real for guys and a little less for girls.  It is a little cheaper to get in before midnight.  There is somewhat of a dress code, no flip flops.  As advertised, the place was crawling with hookers, however, i don't think there were any normal girls in there.  Drinks were a little more expensive than other bars and it was creepy being in a room with that many prostitutes.
