This was to my right as the rain began falling in the distance
As Summer approaches each year, the chatter begins about what everyone thinks about the coming hurricane season. People here along the southeast coast try to predict what the season will bring for us. We share with each other what we heard the weatherman say, then we proceed to give our opinion! There is a lot of anxiety behind all this talk. Many here have lost everything, some more than once. But, we keep coming back because this is home. Others who live far away just don't understand why we keep coming back, or why we even came here in the first place. Unless you have been raised here and your family is here, you could never comprehend. This is what we know. This is what we are used to. It's in us! It is part of who we are. We are comfortable here, despite the threat of losing everything!
So far this season, we have seen a few storms brew out in the ocean.
This was as the rain started falling more
There are actually three out there right now. I am watching closely, as is everyone else here. I have lots of water on hand, as well as flashlights, batteries, radios and all the other things we need to prepare. Personally, I always end up evacuating. I've lived through some of the bad ones from a long time ago, such as Betsy and Camille. I know what these storms are capable of. I am no match for their fierceness! As soon as I can see that it is coming this way, I am gone! I have no problem leaving everything behind to save my life! All I take with me is clothes, pictures, sentimental things and my computer. The rest is just "stuff"!
Recently, I was driving out to the city and saw some very interesting storm clouds brewing along the lake.
This was to my right as the storm clouds moved much closer to me ~ the rain began to fall and the wind blew very hard
Since I always have my camera with me, I took the opportunity to catch a few good pictures. As I went behind the levee along the lake, I thought that this is what is must feel like to be a storm chaser! I literally watched the storm beginning to form over the lake. As I took the pictures, the clouds quickly began moving in on me. It was coming from both directions and I was in the middle of it. It was incredible! I took a short video, but the wind was loud from blowing so hard that you can't hear the thunder! As the clouds from the left were almost on top of me, the rain began to fall on me and I made a run for it! It was quite exciting! The pictures I have here are of that storm. Hope you enjoy them!
