We arrive in Sydney

After an uneventful morning flight in to Sydney, we went straight to the central train station to drop off our bags until the overnight ride to Melbourne. Then we headed off to explore the city armed with a small tourist map. It turned out that we were quite close to the top spot, which is of course the opera house. The walking route took us right through Hyde Park and the botanical gardens so we took our time and enjoyed the sites. In addition to the unique opera house, the Sydney harbor and Harbor Bridge were also quite nice. After that we walked around a good portion of the city covering over 10 kilometers by nightfall. Yes I am currently thinking in metrics and it will take a little time to revert back when I get home.
Cherry Ripe: If you havent heard of it, its an Australian candy bar that I first discovered in 1984 when I was in high school. It never caught on in the States and quickly disappeared. I absolutely loved it and was disappointed when it didn’t catch on. I forgot about it until now and sought out to find it when I finally made it to Australia. It didn’t take me long-- it is at just about any concession stand here. I was amazed that it still existed and wow, I am actually here to enjoy one again and in Australia to boot.
