The Meet-Up Begins

Returning to the hotel at 5 o'clock, I found some TBs sitting outside refreshing themselves with assorted liquids, but I repaired unto my room for a much-needed shower, after which we we were collected by Wendy and Rowena, the organisers, and escorted to the Pannekoekenschip, or Pancake Ship, which is a floating restaurant, moored on the canal, specialising in pancakes. These are more filling than you could possibly believe, and were just what I needed. It was also very very hot below decks, and after a couple of hours we were pleased to emerge and enjoy some fresh air as Wendy gave us a short walking-tour of Leeuwarden, in the course of which we picked up a few more TBs who had only just arrived. Then it was off to the cafe in Prinsentuin Park for some liquid refreshments (tea in my case), and the weather was so balmy that it was a pleasure to sit out-of-doors even at 11 o'clock in the evening. Subsequent events are a bit hazy, but I think we may have stopped for another quick drink on our way back to the hotel. In bed by 1 o'clock - it had been a long day!
