Play of Light
August 8, 2009
Throughout the day, one can see the shift of colors, patterns, and textures in these narrow canyons. The soft, orange sandstone has yielded to the elements over many years. Antelope Creek, which spills into beautiful Lake Powell, has carved these natural formations underground. In some areas, the spaces are so narrow one can reach either side with arms outstretched. In others, one feels humbled standing in what appears a geologic cathedral.
We were looking for the light while exploring these natural subterranean sculptures, marveling at the many hues of orange, the way the sun from above changed the shape and form of things, and how the world is so full of wonder and beauty.
