After 23 hours of flying we finally arrived in Cairns, Australia. We were so tired and jet lagged but it was only about 11 am so we couldnt go to bed until that night. After we got out of the airport in Cairns we went outside and met out bus driver for the next 3 weeks. His name was Damien but we called him Damo (its a weird thing aussies do, they drop the ending of a word and add an "o" so damien becomes Damo). We got our luggage onto the bus and left the airport. Our very first destination in Australia was a place called the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Center. It was very nice, it is a place where they teach you about the aboriginees and where they come from. We had a chance to eat lunch at the buffet in the Center.

The food was wonderful, and very different from our own. After our meal we went into a room where we were able to watch a video about the Aboriginal people and learn about their culture and where they originated from. Then we were guided into another room where we watched a demonstration about the different gods in australia. it was very interesting. When that was finished we went to an outdoors rec area where real aboriginee people did a play about their people and they played music on a digereedoo.
After we left the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Center we drove to the Skyrail Raiforest Cableway to take a ride on the cable cars. I thought the cable car was scary because we were dangling in a cable car above a raiforest! It was very cool though. We rode it all the way up and then back down.
view from the Skyrail
it spanned 7.5 kilometers or about 18,700 feet or 4.7 miles long.We had a lovely view of the Coral Sea as well as the beautiful pristine tropical raiforest. While we were in the cable car I looked down below to admire the view and I saw a beautiful waterfall in the middle of the rainforest. It was lovely! We only rode up to the second tallest station there called the Kuranda Station which is about 33 feet above sea level.
When we were finished with the Cableway we were absolutely exhausted but still had to go to supper. We went to a restaurant called the Hog's Breath Cafe. It was about 6 pm when we got to the cafe and we all ordered our food. every one at this point was falling asleep while waiting for our food to arrive. I got a avacado and mushroom salad; sadly i was too tired to eat it.

We finally finished eating and got back on the bus and when we were right around the corner from our hotel one of the students freaked out and it turned out she had left her envelope with her credit card and money back in the restaurant so we had to drive all the way back and get it. We finally got to the hotel around 8 pm and we all agreed to go to sleep so we were well rested for the morning. Our hotel for the night was called the All Seasons Cairns Gateway Resort. When we arrived it seemed scary and unfamiliar but when we woke up it was beautiful and there was a fountain and tropical birds and everything.
At that moment I realized I was going to like this place.
