Yeah!!! Finally, after years of not going because of travelling, I went to this great festival in my home town Amersfoort. Dias Latinos is a free festival in the historic city centre at the squares and in the shopping street the Lange Straat. Brass bands, singers, musicians and dancers from the Caribbean, South America, Spain and the Netherlands come to this three day event to let the people enjoy show dance, salsa, reggae, reggaeton, tango, merengue, zouk, soca, calypso and samba. This year was the 12th edition and every year it gets bigger and better.
Amersfoort excist 750 years this year, so the organisation spend a lot of money to get some famous and big artists to this event. And they put together a great line up. There were stages at six squares.
With a few people from TB and some friends of mine we went on Saturday to Dias Latinos.
The best performances came at the Hof square, the biggest square, so that's where we went after watching a brass band walking through the shopping street.
Some famous performers where DJ Galak, Ibis Lawrence and DJ Latin Master and Garry Francisco and they gave a great show. Time to dance and shake your booty :p I felt like I was back in the Caribbean, where I've lived for five months. It was just perfect! Ibis Lawrence show was all about Jah and Bless and Rastafari.... Ow yeah, and ganja of course... Jenny and Martijn joined us a few hours later.
In the afternoon we had enough space to dance, but after dinner time the square got really crowded.
We had a simple dinner: Turkish kebap with lots of garlic sauce... This place, Broodje Hadi, is a really small place, but the place to go after partying at night, because it's open till 6am and has good food. The owner is a 'famous' person in the nightlife of Amersfoort...
I lost my friends Ilse and Mark, so I went looking for them, while the rest went to an other square to check out the music there. Unfortunately the music wasn't as good as in the afternoon, but we still had a good time. We hang out for a while at the Karseboom, which is the baby bar of Amersfoort. After midnight we went to the Cuba Libre bar. All the bars were really crowded, too many people inside, but that's no wonder with a couple of thousend people partying... In the Cuba Libre we were able to conquere at spot next to a huge fan and kept on dancing till 3am... I guess we danced off calories for more than a week :-) No reason to feel quilty about the beers :p
It was a great day and night!! Lots of fun! Guys, thanks for coming! Next year again :-)
