Trail from the Nature Center on the approach to the caves.
I didn't realize these caves existed near me until a month ago.  I organized a local meetup group to head 40 minutes down the road southwest from
Green Bay and embarked on a guided tour of the caves.

With the program director from the Nature Center as our tourguide, for $6.00 we received the education of a lifetime down in the caves.  We learned so much during our two hour exploration.  With flashlights in hand and our warm clothes on our backs, we were ready for the adventure to begin.

Fortunately, this was the perfect time of year to explore. Had we waited until outside temps were around 52 degrees we would be swarmed inside by bats!~ On this trip we only saw one lone male bat hanging from the ceiling.

On this day it was 92 degrees, the warmest of our summer, with high humidity exceeding 80%.

As we descended down the metal staircase in to entrance of the first cave I couldn't help but think outloud, "This sure reminds me of one of the Dharma stations from the tv series 'LOST.'  Buried beneath the earth with a partially hidden entrance that was secured with locks and heavy metal doors."  That perception made spelunking even more fun for me as I am a HUGE LOST fan!

I just "discovered" that these caves were near me! I was so busy checking out other states that I overlooked this cool place right in my own back yard.
