This is my own guide to what to do in Dana point.

1. Visit Salt Creek Beach- Its a beautiful beach with a green park that extends all the way down a hill. At night you could probably get away with a huge slip and slide (like the Bacardi commercial) or ice block down in it.  It has a basket ball court at the end of it and a few tables if you wanted to have a get together. It surrounded by the Ritz Carton Hotel and Ritz cove an expensive Multi million dollar luxury homes that over look the beach and park. A lot of people picnic, lay out, play basketball or have get togethers at the park. It nice relaxing way to spend a afternoon.

At the bottom is the beach which extends down a ways with fairly fine white sand and is pretty spectacular to look at. The sunsets are great and the surfing is in my opinion is one the best places in Southern California. The beach is protected pretty well from the wind most of the time and stays glassy most of the day because of the kelp beds that extends way away from the surf line. The beach has a life guard tower at the left end of the beach right before the rock point. Its very good left surf break which is called "The point".  The middle part that is straight in front of the stairs is a spot called “Middles” and the rest of the beach to the far right is a spot called “Gravels”. In the summer the beach and surf is fairly crowded but there are lots of pretty people to look and plenty of places to set up towels etc. The beach is black balled meaning you can only surf at the point and half of middles. Middles and gravels is open to body boarding and swimming no hard board surfing.

Its a great way to spend the day laying out, surfing, picnicking or people watching.

Looking above the beach is The Ritiz Carlton Hotel also not to far is the St Regis Hotel both 5 star resorts. If you want a nice cheap way to see the sun set go hang out at the bar at the Ritz. Get a Mojito (my favorite) or drink of your choice. Take a look out the big glass windows or they have a balcony to go out on.  The Ritz is cool and the people there and very hospitable and you do not have to be a guest. It a great place on the 4th of July to see fireworks. The sunset with a buzz is great way to end the afternoon.

Parking: You do not have to pay for parking but it may be a trek for some. I like exercise so I don’t mind. You can park either on Mariner drive or on Stonehill. There are also meters at the beach but it get crowded when its hot.

2. Eat at Gen Kai Japanese Restaurant- If you like sushi this is the place the Japanese chefs are great. They will make you things you never heard of. I call them taste adventures so try something different. If daring try a nasty shooter it probably the craziest drink you’ll ever have. Also if you like mussels order them there the best I have ever had. Everything is fresh from the ocean the chefs are fun the atmosphere and the people are great.

3. Hennessey's/Fish Bucket- if you like night life they have a Bar called Hennessey’s. The food is ok (bar food) but the way it laid out is great. One side is a standard Irish bar and they have live bands. Outside they have fire pits and another bar and seating to chill. The other side of that is the fish bucket again standard seafood bar food but they have a DJ and dance floor. The crowd is pretty good and the vibe is great in the Fish bucket. If you want to chill you can watch a band on Hennessey’s side or hang outside in the middle. if you want to dance then you can go over to the fish bucket. Its Cool place lot of people hang out here of all ages. After if hungry afterwards  go to the Harbor house steps away to sober up (good greasy food).

4. Visit Dana point Harbor- The harbor really nice and clean there are a lot of restaurants to eat at. I recommend going whale watching if you can. They have a nice harbor and boats can take you out to see the grey whale when in season heading down to mate down in Cabo San Lucas.
