I was up at five oclock this morning. I've been going to the gym before work and I did not want to drop my routine while on vacation. The gym was on the fifth floor of the hotel. There was a heated pool, gym, sauna, and steamroom. I only did my eliptical and treadmill machines. And there were a few other people besides me in there doing there workout.
Today is Niagara Falls day. Along the way we stopped at McDonalds for breakfast. It's quick and inexpensive way to eat breafast at. It's a two hour drive from Toronto to Niagara Falls. I used mapquest for directions. Make sure you have comfortable shoes to walk in. You will do a lot of walking while at the falls.
Before we at lunch we stopped at these beautiful gardens at the base of the Shearton Hotel along River road, close to the Rainbow Bridge. The flowers and landscaping where just beautiful. Waterfalls, ponds, bridges, and mowed lawns. Very nice place to stop and take a break. We took a lot of pictures here. We decided on the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch. We both had grilled chicken sandwiches with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cole slaw, and seasoned fries.
On to the Maids of the Mist. $14.50 per person. You walk down a ramp to the highspeed elevators and down to the docks at the rivers edge. The boats depart every 15 minutes. You get a poncho and believe you will need it. We got on the boat and went over to the otherside facing the American Falls. You can't get a good idea of how big the falls are until you are in the boat and up close and personal wit the falls. The boulders and rocks that have fallen off are huge. It's and amazing site to see. Have that camera ready for some superb shots!! You pass the American Falls to your left and it's on up to the Canadian or Horseshoe Falls. They pull the boat right up into the middle of the falls and water, mist, and the wind is all around you.
Only about a 10 minute ride from the falls along River road is the Whirlpool Aero Car. $12.08 per person. It takes you out over the Niagara River and a huge whirlpool carved millions of years ago when the falls were being carved. It's a nice ride with great views up and down the river and below you. We caught a view of the Whirpool Jet Boat Ride. We wanted to do it also but were running out of time. The car takes you to the otherside and everyone rotates positons inside the car so everyone gets a good view and it heads back from were you loaded up at. We drove further up along the river towards Niagara-on-the-Lake. Lots of vineyards and beautiful home and parks.
It was late and time to head back to Toronto. About a three hour drive from where we were at. It was rush hour traffic and again constuction everywhere. Stop and go traffic...blah!! Tomorrow it's the Toronto Zoo and castle Casa Loma.
