One day gateway from Milan

In the morning we took a direct train from Stazione Centrale to Varenna (heading towards Colico/Sondrio) . It's about 1 hour ride, and the train leaves every two hours. One-way ticket cost about 5 Euros. We weren’t aware that we had to valid the train tickets on the platform before entering the train. Fortunately the ticket inspector was nice and he did that for us. The fine would have been painful.

We arrived in Varenna early in the morning. We took a walk from the station to the lakeshore.

The town was almost empty. It was a windy morning and the sun wasn’t high enough yet. We couldn’t get enough of the view and took pictures of everything that was around us.

We checked the ferry timetable, and decided to walk up to the Castello di Vezio. The truth is that we didn’t expect the way to be a breath-defying experience. We made some stops to rest while admiring the Alps and the lake.

The plan was to get to Bellagio using the ferry.

just like Las Vegas' Bellagio
It’s worth to take the ferry marked with a “a” on the timetable. The price is the same, but it goes first to Menaggio so the ride is longer and if you look close enough you can spot the Mr White’s Villa (Casino Royale)

Until I started to plan the trip, for me Bellagio was only the Las Vegas Hotel with spectacular dancing waters known from the movies. But when I stepped down from the ferry everything seemed right, the architecture, the people, the little shops and cafes.

We sat down and had lunch in some little pizzeria hid in a street that is narrow that only pedestrians or motorbikes can fit. The pizza was delicious " thin crust, tomato sauces made of real tomatoes, cheese and fresh herbs.

When we came down to the lake again, for dessert we indulge ourselves with Italian ice-cream " yummy.

As we promised ourselves we are not going back the same way, we took the bus from Bellagio to Asso. Bellagio is situated upon the extreme cape of the region that divides the Lake Como in two bifurcations. The best view was from the back window of the bus. The bus in Asso stops in front of the train station, there we took train to Milano Cadorna ( there is no connection to Stazione Centrale)
