A twenty minute drive took us to Dubrovnik old town, which was amazing, but very very busy with tourists. One morning for some reason I woke at 6am so decided to go into Dubrovnik, where I felt so privileged to have this beautiful city to myself, before the tour buses and cruise ships arrived. I walked the city walls as soon as they opened at 8am (all the guide books said they opened at 9am??) and was practically alone the whole way round, gradually sensing the city awakening below. There was such a different atmosphere when packed with visitors during the day, chaotic and busy, and then another completely different atmosphere after dark also when the city, although still busy, felt much more relaxed and romantic.
