A dip in Devil‛s pool

Towards the edge of Victora Falls
We all met in the garden of the Royal Livingstone Hotel (I will definitely stay here when I can afford more upscale accommodation). A short boat ride brought us out to Livingstone Island in the middle of the great Zambezi River, right on the edge of Victoria Falls.

First we strolled around the island, then heared the story of how Dr. David Livingstone came down the river and from this island saw Victoria Falls for the first time.

Then we headed for the hightlight of the tour. A short swim in a calm part of the river brought us to Devil‛s pool right on the falls edge. You can‛t really swim in the pool, but we had a blast jumping in and fooling around.

Back on shore a very nice Afternoon Tea (incl traditional high tea and a full bar with hors d‛euvres) awaited us. The location could not have been better. The toilet was actually the best. Don‛t believe there is another toilet in the whole world with the same fantastic view.

We did the afternoon tea, but you can also have breakfast (full English breakfast) or lunch there.

Trips are run between July and March. When the water is at its lowest, October and November, you can sometimes walk across the top of the falls, climbing over rocks, exploring pot-holes and crossing small streams along the way. Strictly speaking, it is not permitted for safety reasons and because Livingstone Island is privat, but a lot of people do.
