Russian San Francisco???
September 15, 2009
Some people call Vladivostok a Russian San Francisco because the city is situated on a hilly terrain surrounded by the Pacific Ocean but this is the only similarity I can think about. The city is just one huge port with all those cranes, vessels, containers.....there's no historical city center except for maybe one 200m street which is closed for traffic. I visited two museums here: a museum of C-56 submarine and Vladivostok's military fortress, the second one was quite interesting...
I think you could see much nicer places if you go out from the city, maybe to Nachodka or Popov or Russian Islands but I'm not intending to do so because I'm totally looking forward to enjoy my next destination - China.
Pictures of Olkhon Island, Ulan-Ude, Khabarovsk and Vladivostok will be uploaded as soon as I have find a proper internet caffe capable of such services....believe or not Russia is very, very, very behind
