two kids on a bus, playing while eating a pork stick :-)
From Kanchanaburi I went to Ayutthaya
, the ancient capital of Thailand, and the journey took about 4,5h because I had to change my bus connection in Suphanburi. The total travel costs were about 110 baht compared to a price of air-con VIP bus that costs around 400 baht. Once I arrived in the town I started to look for an accomodation just north of the provincial bus station. I checked out rooms in about 4 guesthouses before I checked in in P.U. Guesthouse that offered, in my opinion, the best value. Because I arrived in the afternoon at around 3pm, there was not much time left for sightseeing before the sunset (6pm) so that's why I agreed to an evening boat tour offered by the guesthouse.
on a boat tour
Shortly speaking, it was a nice experience to sit in a long-tail boat, listen to the dramatic noises of the engine and admire the palaces at the river that flows around an island where the historical part of Ayutthaya is located. Actually, in one of the temples we visited during our tour there was a quite interesting ceremony of a BIG Buddha being undressed and dressed with different cloths...
The next day I hired a bike at another guesthouse (no particular reason why; probably I like to give little sum of money to different businesses/families) asked the owner where's the best Thai breakfest in town and headed down there. After a bowl of spicy noddles I cycled around various Wats, Chedis, Temples and Palaces before I found myself in the middle of an elephant theatre in which elephants performed some kind of a show (like in a circus). Well, I don't know but those elephants didn't look much happy :-(....Now, I'm updating my blog, sipping a mango shake and saving energy for the New Year's eve party....Happy New Year to you!!!
