Maryland, Home Sweet Home!

Finally we saw the sign welcoming us to Maryland! I knew we still had a few hours of driving, but just being back in Maryland felt good! We continued through the Allegheny Mountains, which is part of the Appalachian Mountain Range, and crossed the Eastern Continental Divide. We soon could see the Sideling Hill road cut which is a 340-foot deep notch excavated from the ridge of Sideling Hill for Interstate 68. This is an impressive man-made mountain pass, visible from miles away and is considered one of the best rock exposures in Maryland and the entire northeastern United States. As the sun was setting behind us after passing through Sideling Hill, it made for some very nice pictures! Only a couple hours to go and we'll be home!
We arrived home just after 9:00pm and it felt so good. Raven, our cat, slowly came out of the living room and greeted us with many loud meows and purring!! We left the luggage to be unpacked tomorrow. Lena and I toasted our trip and return home with a shot of Tequila and relaxed a bit before calling it a night.
