Wine tasting is a must for any Mendoza experience, and my visit here was not going to be the exception. Since I am no wine connossieur, I decided to take the half day winery tour that included a big winery, an oil factory and a small family winery. The first stop was "Bodegas y Viñedos López" a renowned and industrialized winery. The facilities were very nice and they gave us a very detailed explanation of the process of wine making and a great tour to the storage rooms. At the end, they provided wine tasting of "Vino Espumoso" (the argentinian champagne) and red malbec wine (the speciality of Mendoza). I bought a couple of bottles as souvenirs for my friends.

Then we went to the olive oil factory. It was a very small, family owned bussiness, but yet the tour was very interesting.

After getting to know the process of oil making, we were also given free samples of bread with oil to taste. They were great, specially the oil with albahaca. I also bought several bottles of these for my cordobese friends. I'm sure they will appreciate it.

The last stop was a small, family owned winery, who priced themselves of producing only high quality, handcrafted, no chemical added wine. After the usual tour we were also offered some wine tasting, but this time the explanation was a lot more comprehensive. Malbec was their specialty, but their Cabernet Sauvignon had an exquisite aroma and taste. I bought a bottle of that one.

I really enjoyed this trip and I am starting the appreciate the art of wine making and testing. I know I still need to develop it, but now I am on my way, I think! This week I have tried more wine than all of my previous life I think.

Hey Peter, I am glad you liked my blog! Just keep in mind that the city of Mendoza is not nice, but the trips to the Andes and the wineries are definitively worth it! If you are a wine lover this is a must for you. Cheers!

Hey Carlos - a great read thank you - I am now determined not to go back to Argentina without spending time in Mendoza.
