Day 2 of New York Adventure
Get up this morning for another amazing adventure of New York City.
I start off the morning with going outside and walking around in the immediate area.
The first main attraction I do this morning is going to the Top of the Rock attraction.
It is located in the Rockefeller building and it is supposed to be a better view here then from the Empire State Building.
I enter the building and go through the almost like Airport security thing set up and make it to the main entrance of the elevator. I am the only one here today, so no long line ups.
I get onto the elevator and it takes me up to the top of the building. The elevator has fancy effects as you see all of these videos and fancy lights going off as you go up to the top of the building.
I get to the top and its an amazing view of NYC. You can walk around and see the entire city from here. The most amazing side is looking at Central Park, as you see this huge rectangle of trees surrounding by buildings. I would recommend this spot over going up the Empire State building, as you get a better view.
I take many photos from all angles of the view and take it all in, as you don’t see view like this too often.
I make my way down the building and on to the next attraction. I make it to an old Gothic Church of St. Patrick's Cathedral. St. Patrick's Cathedral is adecorated Neo-Gothic-style Catholic cathedral church in the United States.
Within the same are Also go explore the famous concert hall of Carnegie Hall. This is where some of the most famous concert shows were ever played out before. Go see the famous Radio City building as it is something that you see all the time on TV shows.
Go along 5th avenue of where all the fancy high priced shops and places to stay are located. Where many rich and famous people hang out, no celebrities sites today though.
Walking around on the streets of New York, you get this special feeling your in some place amazing.
From here I then walk a few more block and then made it to the United Nations Headquarters. I get in the long line and go inside and pay my 13 bucks to take the guided tour of this very important place. It is quite an amazing place, we go to the Security Council room to Trusteeship Council Room to the main meeting room you see all the time on TV. We go to the museum of where all the nations have offered gifts and artefacts to this centre. Canada has a set of doors that are located at one of the entrances here.
After the tour before leaving the building I go and have lunch from the vending machine, A Snickers Bar and a bottle of Pepsi, breakfast of champions. I go outside and explore the Garden area of the grounds and view the East River. There are some interesting statues in the Garden area.
I leave this area now and continue my walking adventure in New York City.
I think make it to the NYC Main Library, another old and interesting building. If you ever seen the old movie Ghostbusters, this is featured in the movie. I make a walk around on every floor it here and make my way to the reference room, feels like the 1800’s all over again.
I leave here now and make it to a park just behind it called Bryant park, and go for a lunch. I eat a bacon and lettuce sandwich from a kiosk in the middle. Quite good but a bit expensive, but then again it is NYC.
I then continue my walk and go to Times Square. Being a Saturday afternoon it is so busy here.
I go to the Toys R US store here and its kind of a cool place. Inside there is a full size T rex in the Jurassic Park Toy area. There is a real Darth Vador mask from the actual movie for over 400 bucks here as well, pretty cool. Very near store, I recommend everyone to go and check it out.
From here I keep walking in the area, going to the Post office then to Madison Square Gardens where the New York Rangers play. It is a very neat place and would love to see a game here in the future. I then make it to the old Macy’s store, where the original wooden escalator is still used.
I make it further south on 7th Avenue, stopping at some amazing Ice Cream parlour, I have vanilla and its amazing. Go and check it out.
I keep walking down and make it to a fire hall that looks like one used in Ghostbusters movies, kind of neat.
I make it to ground Zero of where the World Trade Centre once stood, quite a creepy feeling area. One building nearby, the Deusche Bank is on fire, quite a coincidence. I go up to the World building and get a more clear view of Ground Zero. Hard to tell if a tragedy did happen here, but it still does have an eerie feeling here. I make it down to Battery Park and explore the walk way on the waterfront, very nice are, I see Lady Liberty in the distance as well. I walk around the park for a while. By this time my legs are starting to boggle as I have been walking all day since 7 this morning. It is now around 5pm and still so much of NYC I need to see more. I walk down into Wall St and see the famous Headquarters here. The main brain child of the world financial centre, very important place. I go by the New York Stock exchange and then by another building owned by Donald Trump, quite fancy.
Now I am really tired but pushing myself along, I stop for a NYC hotdog at a stand and its good food for now as I am almost starving.
I make it down to Pier 17 a big shopping area and entertainment area, quite neat.
I go browse the shops and now its late around 9pm and I am really hungry. I stop at an Irish Pub of Macmenins here and go sit at the bar. I have some fish and chips and a beer, The waitress put someone else’s order in front of me and I almost eat it as I am very hungry. Anyways mistake is fixed and she gets her meal and I get my fish and chips and beer.
I have a 2nd beer for good luck. By this time I am very tired as I have walked over 10 miles today and been doing that since 7am. I leave the area and grab a taxi and get back to my hotel.
I was planning to go out tonight. However I lie down and went right to sleep, and slept well till morning, no bar tonight.
Stay tuned for next blog of New York City.
