Sightseeing in Vienna

We started today, after a typical European breakfast, with the Schonnbrunn Palace. We took the underground and got there without incident, although we exited the station the "wrong" side and had to walk down a long sidewalk and just hope we were going the right way. But when we got to the big intersection where we could see the palace, I was glad we took the scenic route because the view was great, down a long, wide median to the front gates.
The palace was beautiful (duh), and I loved the gardens in the back that seem to just go on and on forever. I couldn't resist breaking into song occasionally with a phrase or two from The Sound of Music. :) We hiked all the way up to the Gloriette for a nice view over Vienna!
After leaving the palace we walked through the town to see the Belvedere Gardens.
After lunch, we meandered home and (still recovering from jet lag) took a nice long nap. Unfortunately when we woke up it was raining outside and we didn't feel like wandering in the rain, so we just relaxed in the hotel room.
For dinner, we just walked down the block to Il Tempo (an Italian/pasta type place with indoor and outdoor seating). I had gnocci, which was actually pretty good - Jesse's lasagne tasted (he said) kind of like a frozen/microwaved TV dinner. Too bad!!! We had tirimasu and apfelstrudel for dessert, both of which were delicious!
A quiet night... getting ready for more sightseeing and meeting up with Jesse's cousins tomorrow!!
