Day 19: From Laerdal to Borgund
June 23, 2009
Staying too long at the same place is boring ;) Hurry up to Borgund.
Borgund? Ah, the most famous stave church in Norway is in Borgund! Oh, another stave church you might say. Too becalm you it was the last stave church on the trip ;)
But not only the stave church is worth to visit. There are 2 hiking trails very close to the church which I can highly recommend. It's the Vindhellavegen and the Sverrestigen. Both hiking trails are historic routes and very old. The Vindhellavegen was built in 1793 and rebuilt in 1840 and 1843. It was amazing to hike on such an old trail.
The Sverrestigen is a popular path beneath Husum and Borgund and it's said that king Sverre rode along this part of the kongevegen in 1177.
You can connect both trails to a roundtrip.
We spent the night at a camp ground which belongs to a farm house. It was very cheap and located directly at the road E 16.
