today is a beautiful day
April 29, 2007
dang i just got back from vienna on 25th, worked the next day, got a rest on friday then worked again yesterday. then torben called me last friday, saying that he wanted to meet me and do monkey things again :D - well torben is one of my closest friend in germany, although he lives 70++ kms. from me in another city called bochum, we see each other from time to time. you see, we have tease names with each other, i call him torben the monkey and he calls me lao tzu (laughs hahaha) and everything we do when were together are called monkey things and the day was monkey day :D hahaha.
so we decided to go to the "beach" in düsseldorf - well - düsseldorf is one the richest, the most modern and most fashionable city in germany, and it can afford the "city beautification projects" in a short amount of time, so it has a BEACH of its own in the rhine river.
perfect with real sand and they actually hauled over the sands from the rhine below to the top - amazing. real work - well peter's (another friend) father was before the city planner and engineer of düsseldorf and he made that project.
it was such a lovely day (though a bit cold and windy) torben and me met at the central station in düsseldorf at about 2:00 pm. the sun was shining, cloudless - unusual for western europe - usually in april its the most craziest weather ever - sometimes its raining, snowing, HAILING and less sunshine, but since last month - everything is perfect.
we walked from the train station to the alstadt, but we passed königsallee first - the most snobbiest street in germany (hahaha but i am an exception :D thats why torb like me so much :P) we took some pics and make fun of people wearing extravagant clothes and putting everything together in their body - even the small dogs they had - we were also making fun of it :D (laughs)
then we realized it was sunday! dang, all the groceries were closed and we couldnt have foods for our picnick, luckily i remember a kiosk somewhere, and we bought water - thats it.
laughs but that was it, no foods and all - so we went to burger king and just bought junk foods.
we decided just to walk from the alstadt to the düsseldorfer harbor whew! :P from the central station - thats about 2-3 kms. walking and from the harbor to the beach. we ate ice cream along the way, and instead of taking the normal route across the rhine river promenade (which is a whopping 500 million euros to make) we went below it. its a bit scary because it has no bars or anything to prevent someone from falling (hahaha) but the two of us were perfect partners for adventures, because our lust to go through was strong.
when we crossed the so-called riffraff bridge, (because in that place, there are many people living in trailers, living from sozialamt - social support and the snobby people in düsseldorf called it absurd and in return the people living there called the place - absurdistan hahahah it's absurd! laughs) i can see from the distance that the beach was so full! and as we got closer, theres hardly any space left, so we still walked and saw our secret spot not as secret as before :D hehehe.
we just walked a bit further and relaxed ourselves, ate our junkies and joked around as usual. with our strange humour combined, it was really a perfect day. then we deiced to walk further and were so surprised! because it was so dry! it was like a desert! - almost - well last winter, wanst really winter and theres not much snow in the source of the rhine, so the river which is supposed to be swelling in spring is all dried up. nevertheless we enjoyed ourselves and the people too there, barbecuing, picnicking, kite flying or just simple bumming.
then we sat in one of the stone breaks until 5 in the afternoon, we decided to watch a movie after, but when we were at the cinema (in the harbor area) theres no good program, so i just invited him to go to salon des amateurs - my favorite bar/club in düsseldorf.
but we got hungry again, and we decided to have a round of sushi. there's a nice sushi bar in the harbor, in my opinion is the 2nd best sushi bar in düsseldorf.
then after that we catched the bus and train going back to the old city, then we went to the salon had a couple of drinks, and torb really liked it there, so relaxing and so alternative :D we laughed and joked again :D also had some serious conversations about this and that.
i just came home, somehow, i need to write a blog about this, for torben is one of my cherised friend in germany, and doing monkey things with him, eventhough its a depressing day - it will always be a beautiful day :D
