K2007
October 24, 2007
If you've never been to a major European trade show, you haven't lived. The shows we have in the US, even the "big" ones, pale by comparison. The "K" show occur every 3 years and are devoted to the plastics and rubber industry. It fills all 14 BUILDINGS of "Messe Düsseldorf". The scope is amazing and huge machinery is set up and operating. Each morning for three days, Tim and I ate breakfast and walked across the street from the hotel to board a bus to the main train station. From there, we took a train that carried us right into the show. The trip took almost an hour each way but was stress-free and I must admit it was a kick commuting with the locals. I can understand how, when properly run, trains can maintain a tight schedule; after all, they have control of the traffic. What I can't comprehend is how the busses, subject the the whims of traffic, can maintain their schedules to within a minute or two but they dd so every day! It's really too bad we can't have such systems here in the US.
