An early start
August 9, 2009
The early (06:00) flight with BMI Baby from Birmingham meant a rather early start, but the whole thing worked like clockwork and Birmingham Airport was a breath of fresh air compared to Heathrow or Gatwick, either of which could have been the model for the seventh circle of hell.
The flight was on time, and before you could say Hola!, we were zipping along the E15 motorway towards Nerja. The last time we went (late 90s) the motorway wasn't complete and the drive took forever, but now (accidents and roadworks permitting), you can do it quite legally in under an hour.
Isabel the maintenance manager met us at the security office and took us down the 70 steps to the apartment, which was a little disturbing at first, but as we are regulars at the Prestwood gym, it was not as bad as it would otherwise have been and by the end of the week, together with the 200 steps down to the beach we were used to it and it seemed to compensate in some small way for the eating and drinking we managed to achieve.
