I was thinking about leaving Cotacachi early, but we finally left around 11am. The guys wanted to arrange accommodation and flights before leaving. We'd drive them back to Quito later that day, since we had to go to Quito's airport too.
It was already noon, when we arrived to Otavalo. The town looked nice and busy. We were lucky to find a parking spot just a couple of blocks away from the main square, so we didn't have to walk that much. The 4 of us started to walk together, but soon we realized that it was a mistake, better to split and meet later. Lisa and William would go one way and Shawn and me would go other.
I wanted to buy some presents and souvenirs, so this was the perfect opportunity. First of all, my dad's present. I thought about a Panama hat, when we were in Montecristi Shawn told me I could find cheaper ones in Otavalo and so I did. In Otavalo you have to bargain if you want to get a discount.
Then I saw some magnets, yay!!! Finally!!! got a few with different names written on them, hehehe. We bought a snack: tostado, which is toasted corn, yummy! We kept on walking and I was looking for a present for mom. I saw a nice pashmina and decided to get it. Shawn liked it too, so we got 2 one for me and one for the presents he had to take back home next week. He also needed to do some shopping. He was visiting family next week. He found some whistles and crayons. I got some crayons for my niece too.
We weren't hungry, but went to a restaurant just to check the view from the 2nd floor hehehe. It was nice seing all the blue stands, how nice! When we were about going downstairs we saw something funny on the table.
Back to the streets we were still looking for more presents. This time wasn't a present I wanted to get a sweater. I forgot to bring a light one from Peru. I found a nice one, yay! Then we kept on walking looking for matching sweaters for Shawn's nieces. That would be awesome if the 2 of them have matching sweaters. In our way, we saw some street food. Shawn pointed something that according to him wasn't that good. I approached to the lady. Did I see "sangrecita" blood? We had a similar dish here. I asked the lady: "Is that sangrecita?" "Yes!"- she said - "Would you like to try?" "Sure! Thanks!" Shawn was amazed when I grabbed the potato covered with sangrecita and gave it a bite, hehe.
Then I found a nicer sweater for me, oh no!!! Well, the sweater I bought before matched with Shawn's nieces', so we had an idea why don't I sell Shawn my sweater and with the money got the other one? He agreed, yay!!! So, I got a sweater and he got 3 matching sweaters. The big one would be for his nieces' mom. Now the 3 women of the family would be wearing a uniform, hahaha.
It was 2:30pm when we decided to go for lunch. Believe it or not, I wasn't asking for local food, hahaha. So, we went to a nice cafe, which was also part of my recommended places. They serve organic and healthy food, yummy! The place was small and cozy. They also had a nice balcony with a great view of the market. We didn't sit outside. It was windy.
Later, Lisa got a veggie lassagna, William a burger, Shawn a tuna sandwich and I got tasty tomatoes stuffed with cheese and spinach. Food was very good and we were all full. We left the restaurant around 3:30pm and started to walk back to the car. In our way we kept on looking interesting stuff, but couldn't stay longer. Shawn had to be back in Cotacachi and I wanted to go shopping there too, hehehe. Why shopping there? well, Cotacachi was the Leather Capital!!!
