hostel outside
I woke up early, but I didn't leave the hostel until late - well for me 9:30am is late - because I was talking, hahaha. What a surprise! Actually it was a surprise, my roomy famous Peppe speaks as much as I do, awesome! I was trying to be as quiet as possible while I was getting ready when I heard someone said: "buenos dias!" (good morning!). It was Peppe. He's Italian/Swiss and is traveling around Southamerica for some months. We were talking about ourselves, travels, etc. Don't know exactly for how long we talked, I just remembered I woke up at 6:30 and it was already 9!. I asked him if he'd had plans for the day and he told me he'd go to look for a tour to the Amazon, cool! I'd go to the Teleferico or cable, just to get an amazing view of the city and volcanos around it.
yay! I paid as a local!!!
I said I have to go now and we might meet later. Well I hoped so, since he told me that if he found the tour, he'd leave that day...

The lady at the frontdesk told me how to arrive to the Teleferico, which bus to take, etc. The bus ride wasn't long and I was able to see other part of the city. Then I arrived to the Teleferico stop, Ave. Sucre & Ave. La Gasca. Noway, you could miss it. There I had to wait for a couple of minutes until the Park van came. This was a free shuttle for all the people going to the park, sweet! Now I was inside the park and was the moment to try if I learned well to talk like a local, hahaha. Well, I saw that the entrance for locals was US$ 4.50 and for tourists was US$ 8. I asked for my ticket and the lady said: "US$ 4.50, please" Sweet! I succeeded! They thought I was a local, hahaha.

Next thing was doing a line in order to wait for the cable car. It arrived and started going up. All the surroundings were beautiful, could hardly wait to reach the top. Once I arrived, I could feel the air was thinner. In order to see all the volcanos, you have to walk quite a bit. Maybe not that much, but it felt harder being over 4,000 m.a.s.l. But worth it. I took my time to go to every pointview and enjoy the landscapes. Of course picture time. Minigunther was with me!

Once I was ready, I decided to go for a glass of "vino caliente" (warm wine) before going down. It was warm and sunny in Quito, but here was windy and cold, brrr. So good I brought my jacket and gloves :P I left the park around 12:30pm.
having lunch
I was thinking about taking the bus to drive back to my hostel. But at the end me and other 3 tourists shared a van and paid just US$1.50 each, hehehe. It drove me straight to the hostel area.

Before going back to the hostel I stopped to have lunch. In my list of recommended places, there was a Middle Eastern cafe and I found it. I had a tasty falafel and the owner was amazed I was taking pics of the restaurant and food. Hassan thought I was a gastronomic reporter, hahaha. And even gave me free dessert, hahaha. Food and service were awesome!

I went back to the hostel and talked to Jerry, we'd meet at 2pm at the Plaza Foch to explore another part of town. When I went into my room I saw Peppe's stuff, but also famililar tennis shoes. Where did I saw those before? OMG! Anthony's! "Anthony? Are you here?" Nobody was there.
smile!
We'd meet later, that's for sure.

As agreed I met Jerry at Pza Foch and we went to Santa Clara Market. Yay! I was thinking about going to a market in Quito, how cool! We arrived to the market around 2:45pm. Market was big and clean. I liked it! This area was just about local people, no tourists, perfect! I saw all the traditional food, veggies and fruits. Although I had a good lunch, I couldn't help it to try it a very popular snack. They put in a bag different types of corn and eat them with a spoon. Of course, they add aji - spicy dressing. It was yummy! hehe. The only thing I didn't ask for was the pork :P

Then we went to the meat area. I'm used to see unusual things, but there was something that was so new for me: huge amounts of pork skin, raw and fried, ughhhhh.
manicured pig feet :)
I was having fun and taking pics of everything, hahaha. Some people found it fun, but there were a couple of ladied who didn't find that so fun... At that market you can find, besides veggies, fruits, meat, also flowers, some toys, medicinal herbs... a big market.

We decided to walk back to the hostel. It wasn't far and there were nice things to see that I'd enjoy, great idea! While we were walking I saw the famous Peppe! He was looking for a small backpack, would leave to the Amazon tonight, but would go back to the hostel in a while, so I might meet him there. I'd have liked to stay longer walking around, but next morning we'd leave to Mindo and I'd leave my big backpack in Quito.
having a snack
Didn't want to carry it for just 1 day trip, specially if I'd go back to the city. Instead of leaving it at the hostel - where I wouldn't spend another night besides this one - I'd leave it at Jerry's homestay, sweet! So I went back to the hostel to repack my stuff and later Jerry would come in order to go to his homestay.

I packed as soon as possible and at 6pm Jerry showed up. We took my big backpack to his homestay. In Mindo we'd talk about my astrological chart. In our way I saw a bakery offering something I didn't know "pan de yuca", sweet pastries made with yuca. So, we went to Jerry's favorite chain and got them. Yummy, they were very good, specially with a hot cup of coffee. Then we went back to my hostel. I needed to leave something: the wine we got for Mindo, hahaha.
with the famous Peppe. Who would have said that we met a week later in Lima!!!
We got a Chilean wine, but it's cheaper in Peru...

I wasn't supposed to stay longer at the hostel, but then I saw him. It was Anthony! OMG! I was so happy of seeing him! I told him I made already plans for dinner, but I definitely wanted to hang out with him later and catch up what they have been doing. Also he wante to ask me more about Machu Picchu. He and his friend were thinking seriously about going there next week. Cool, we had a plan! I introduced him to Jerry and they 2 were chatting. I went for my purse and when I was about leaving, I saw the famous Peppe!!! Perfect time! I gave him my email address and he gave me his. Eventually he'd head Lima and would contact me, once he was there. (Note: last week I was hanging out with Peppe, just got a message saying: I'm in Lima!, hahaha)

Jerry was getting hungry, ok time to go and find a place to have dinner.
nice tree
We weren't sure where to go, but at the end we decided for a Thai place. I love Thai food and Jerry hasn't tried this place yet. It was located walking distance. The atmosphere was cozy and nice! The waiter came with complimentary snacks and the menus...

We got tea and lemonade to drink. To eat I got curry shrimps and Jerry got some noodles. Food was really tasty and the presentation was lovely too. I liked the decoration of the place a lot. It was small but charming. After a delicious dinner, Jerry walked me back to the hostel. I didn't see Antohony there, but then I got a txt saying he, Kerry and other guys from the other hostel were hanging out at the Irish Pub nearby. Cool! I met him and Kerry and they gave me excelent news. They'd go to Baños at same time as me, how great!!!

Unfortunately, we didn't stay that long. I had to wake up early next morning. Jerry would come at 7am! I walked back with Anthony and didn't say good bye to Kerry, just a see you in a couple of days, yay!
