Arriving in HCM by plane from Hue, the changes with the northern part of Vietnam are rapidly felt: climate (hot and humid), financial hub of Vietnam, "skyscrapers", etc... a more modern city. Hanoi vs HCM, it's like Beijing vs Shanghai. One is more political and culture-oriented, the other one is more business-oriented.
HCM is well-known for shopping centers and except outlets the city has nothing much to offer. Sure there are the restaurants and local food but the general ambience is really different from northern Vietnam. It might be a biased opinion but I found the people to be kind of more rude, more "westerners" I would say, not as smiling as the Vietnamese I have met since the beginning of my journey in the country.

If you like visiting museum, I may advise you to take a look at the Fine Arts or the relict of the war museum. Once again, be warned when visiting the latter one : the relicts, photos and stories showed are coarsed and very biased.

Don't miss the numerous street markets and the HCM's Champs-Elysées : Nguyen Hue St, at night of course for the lighting!
